Not so good competition

Thursday evening, our coach finally decide to do some fast sprint. Maybe some is not the word as we did 3 x 3 x 60m at 90% average. It was a little harsh two days before the first competition considering the beginning of the week. As a consolation i did some good start for once.

Friday evening was a pole vault evening ! The first one where i could jump a little. I continue to learn the arms position to bend the pole. I learned a lot of things and it was very rewarding to jump again.

Saturday afternoon was the competition day. All began with pole vault. The event was pretty long because my coach broke one the two post. I began at 3m and did 3 attempt at 3m20, 3m40 to finally stop at 3m60, because my poles were too supple and did not fly me enough ! I had good sensations so next competition should be good ! The 60m happened during pole vault pause due to the broken post and i was not that concentrate. I did 7.80s with a slow start and it is not so bad at only 0.04s of my record. After that triple jump was too hard and i decided to stop before the end of the event, too tired. The week is almost done i will finally get some rest.

Discus throw sunday morning ends the week and i look forward next week to be more fast and powerful !

First of the winter in any case ! Indoor like usual, we are going to meet our 200m favourite loop again for better performances than last year (let's cross fingers). That is the reason we did extra effort this year, and train every single day.

Friday was the traditional pole vault day and it is alone that i began my training. Not totally lonely because Agathe, ex-VGA and european level jumper was here to train her sister and i benefited from the training : some exercices at the horizontal bar and rope climbing before the real jumps after 4 month of drought. It began to be a long time...

To not change good habits, sunday morning was not a sunny day but we did some discus throw anyway. The problem is that despite the daylight saving time change that very night, we went to a club until 3 o'clock in the morning. So it was a little tired that we did our mimes : it consists simply in repeating every single movement of the throw slowly with or without discus but without throwing. It is a very typical exercice in winter and it is as exhausting as the real throw because you have to maintain every position a lonnnnnnng time.

Monday evening no long jump but hurdles. First time for Samir (my sparring partner) who wants to do its best at the combined events 60m hurdle in one month. For me it goes up-and-up even if i attack the hurdle too close. It forces me to jump to high to pass the hurdle which is a loose of time and speed. Let's hope i will be good at it one day...

Tuesday we felt a little distress because the coach wanted us to do a no-limit run. The goal was to run 300m in 1' and get 1' rest until our body refused to move. The day before, forecast went from 9 to 12 repetitions. To be well prepared i drunk water all day, took an energy snack 1h before, made my own energy drink with water, sugar and salt. Finally all was great and we did 16 x 300m in a row and made a final 400m in 1'20 with 100m in knees move up. It was very rewarding to be able to do that final 400m without agonizing. I put my football socks the evening to increase calf circulation and detoxification. Without it i wouldn't had been able to walk yesterday for long jump.

Long jump was a bit hard as we were tired by the hard week we got. Legs were heavy and it was hard to do good jumps. Fortunately my last jump was good (let's say better than the others) and we will see what it will done in the next competition next week ! (this week there is no long jump (T_T))
Even so, the day after we came back to tracks to train again with even greater intensity for an aerobic training which was hardest enough for the most resistant of us : 3 x 4 x 200m in 34" with 30" of recovery. It means 17" for 100m which is not so fast for one run but painful when you have to do it 24 times at the same speed ! Hard enough for us to have cramps anyway...

So wednesday was a smooth training of shot put and it was largely sufficient for us to be tired. I was dreaming of my bed i met 2h later after some sit-up. The good news is that i also have a good old common cold that put me down for thursday. Arg...

Thursday night is our special sprint training with shortest distances than tuesdays but faster run. We just did 2 x 3 x 120m in fast-relax-fast : Run fast 40m, relax by just maintaining speed next 40m and finally run as fast as possible last 40m. Recovery time 4', just enough for my heart not to faint. It pulses so hard at the end of the training i almost feels it in my legs. My cold is stronger that the day before and i was happy to finish only with a 5' recovery run and some triceps exercices at the horizontal bar. Fortunately weather is exceptionally sweet for an October 26th and it was a real pleasure despite my cold to train outside.

The pleasure is also the abaility to feel something new in the run. I was able for the first time to leave the ground very fast with my feet and i gave me a real feeling of speed. I loved that.

In the beginning i was a jumper and my record in long jump is 6.20 m. But impossible for me to recover my initial best and i slowly progress to a small 5.95 m. this is a lot under what i could do because in the meantime i was never as fast as i am now (despite i never was FAST in my early years).

That is the reason why we decided to have a specific long jump training once a week with a great coach (member of a long jump team, third of the france long jump team cup). He accepted probably by pity to take care of two combined event athletes looking for some good results.

The training began with little warming up exercices for legs and arms coordination. Then slowly we began to train the end of the jump, the ramené. We have ended the training by adding scissors to the jump (the legs movement in the air) with a hurdle run-up. It was positive as i feel a lot better in the air and i am able to approach the 6.0 m almost easily.

The bonus is that the Compiègne sand is very thin. As a result, your shoes, socks, and even underpants are full of it ! nice...

I look at the olympic games on the tv from several countries. Some of them like Austria or Japan are particularly chauvinist and rarely show athletes from other countries. France does the same but is a good player as its try to show all sports and athletes. However France wants medals and always wants more. French satisfy themselves of a medal by asking themselves when the next one will occur. There is no real celebration.

The advantage of being chauvinist is that when a local athlete wins, he become a true star. One has just to take a look at Arakawa, gold medal in artistic skating that became since a few days a real star. her medal is reproduce in olympic medal-shaped doughnuts sprinkled with gold-leafmedalt and the sale of her performance music also inscrease largely !
